Düsseldorf is the capital of North Rhine-Westphalia and home to many international companies, including a large Japanese community. It's compact and close to Cologne and the Ruhr cities.
Arriving
Düsseldorf Airport has two stations. The S11 leaves from the terminal station. The long-distance station (Flughafen Fernbahnhof), linked to the terminals by the SkyTrain, has regional trains and ICEs to the Hauptbahnhof and to Cologne.
Getting around
Rheinbahn runs the U-Bahn, trams and buses; the S-Bahn and regional trains belong to the same VRR ticket system, which covers the whole Rhine-Ruhr area.
- The €63 Deutschlandticket covers the network and regional trains to Cologne and the Ruhr cities.
- Most universities include the Deutschland-Semesterticket in the semester fee. Check yours before you buy a ticket.
