Hamburg Anmeldung form in English
Answer the questions in English and download Hamburg's official registration form (Anmeldung bei der Meldebehörde), filled in, in German. Print it, sign it and take it to your appointment at a Hamburg Service office (Kundenzentrum).
This is the form every Kundenzentrum in Hamburg uses. It has three pages: an instruction sheet and the two-page form.
Questions about the form
- Does the Kundenzentrum accept a form filled in online?
- Yes. This is Hamburg's official PDF with your answers typed in. The printed pages are identical to the ones at the office. Sign page 3 by hand before your appointment.
- Who is the Wohnungsgeber?
- The person or company that gives you the flat: the owner, or the main tenant if you sublet a room. Their name and address are on your Wohnungsgeberbestätigung.
- What does blocking data sharing do?
- Hamburg's form lets you object to the office passing your name and address to political parties before elections, to politicians and the press for birthdays and wedding anniversaries, and to address-book publishers (§ 50 Bundesmeldegesetz). You don't need to give a reason. Tick the ones you want in the form above.
- What should I write for religion?
- Members of the Lutheran (Ev.-luth.), Roman Catholic or Reformed churches, or of the Jewish community in Hamburg, pay Kirchensteuer on top of income tax. If you aren't a member of one, choose none or another religion and no church tax applies.
- I'm moving from abroad. What goes under "Zuzug aus dem Ausland"?
- The country you moved from. If you have never lived in Germany before, leave the earlier German address and the Wegzugsdatum empty.
- What else do I need to bring?
- Your passport or ID card, your visa or residence permit if you have one, and the Wohnungsgeberbestätigung signed by your landlord.
- Do you store what I type?
- No. The form is filled in your browser and downloaded to your device. If you're signed in, we read your profile to prefill fields, but nothing you type here is sent to us.
