Home internet in Germany comes over the phone line (DSL), TV cable, or fibre (Glasfaser). What you can get depends on your exact address, so the first step is an availability check. Ordering to working connection often takes two to four weeks, longer if a technician has to visit.
- 1
Check your address
Enter your street and house number on a provider's availability checker or a comparison site.
- 2
Order as soon as you have a move-in date
You'll need your address, an IBAN for the monthly payment, and often the name of the previous tenant or the line ID.
- 3
Bridge the wait
A mobile data plan with a large allowance, or a mobile hotspot, covers you until the line is live.
Check and compare
1&1 availability check
Enter your address to see which 1&1 speeds and technologies reach your flat.
Go to 1&1Compare internet plans
Check24 compares DSL, cable and fibre plans available at your address.
Go to Check24Contract rules
- The first term can be at most 24 months.
- After that, the contract runs month to month and you can cancel with one month's notice.
- If the provider delivers much slower speeds than promised, you can reduce your payment or cancel. The Bundesnetzagentur's measurement app gives you the proof.
